The Atlantic Salmon is a true icon of Scotland and one we may stand to lose due to both the mistreatment of our rivers, and more so, the ecologically devastating practice of Fish Farming that haunts our coastlines. Though I don’t fish for salmon myself, they still hold a solid place in my heart - I grew up watching the salmon leap every year, one of their prominent runs in Perthshire is not far from my childhood home and I spent many days walking near the falls to see them. This was the first Lino Carving I’ve ever done, it’s not perfect, but I wanted to pay homage these river kings. These A6 prints are a limited run, not unlike the salmon themselves. The print features a cock salmon boasting a prominent kype, and I’ve taken a wee bit of ‘artistic license’ in the way I’ve represented the breeding tartan. Each one of these cards has been printed by hand and the light in the eye has been painted on by hand on each one, so please be aware there are slight variations in the position and opacity of each one.
Cúruadh is a small business owned and operated by an individual, but despite being not much more than a sole trader, I still hold a strong commitment to sustainability. All my packaging is either recycled, recyclable or compostable. I source materials locally whenever possible and will always opt to use natural fibres such as wool, leather, cotton and hemp over synthetics. I run my brand and business with a low tolerance for single use plastics.
